October News from the Ridge this is the Month of:
Canwapekasna Wi - Moon When the Wind Shakes off Leaves
This month of October has shown us a mild and beautiful fall,
We will continue with harvest until the plants no longer bear
or first frost comes, things like root vegetables, and the larger
squash are hardy, so they can withstand much of that.
Softer vegetables such as the tomatoes and such, will be
finished soon so harvest while you can.
Harvest News:
************
Beans, Squash, Corn,
Peppers of three varieties
Carrots, turnips, tinspela
wild grapes,
pumpkin
the watermelon has been pulled
potatoes,
tomatoes
wild rice
and wild grains
apples green and red
Herbs 16 varieties
also to be collected at any time
elderberries
if you have a G&S fishing rod you may fish man or woman
In the hills somewhere well everywhere..lol
is iron
G & S iron look for it and it can be mined freely
there will be in time more natural formations of rocks to collect
for both G&S and unique trade of semi precious stones for
sand paintings jewlery.
Pine cones, red clay, pine boughs
stones and such still need to be scripted for harvesting.
Short Blue Grass grows in some of the waterfalls to be collected to
for healing etc. and some wildflowers
Upper shelves, and baskets scripted to receive goods
will make some main harvest baskets until we can sort through
everything
OK FINALLY TRADITIONAL MILKING!! The kaiila are set up with two mares near
my tipi for kaiila milk, taking kaiila milk is tricky
there will always be a bit of blood in the first draw as the
babes are omnivores meaning meat and grain eaters.
Lakota Work Baskets? Who does not have one?
Who does not have a scripted weapons belt for
child or woman? the kids just got wonderful
little stone, pinecone and acorn slingshots made
by Heca....they are so cute.
Braves See Heca for a functional coup stick

HOLY HORSE
****************
A NOTE ON THE KAIILA (Horse or close to in Gor)
Ok so you know, what do we call them?
Kaiila (also our tribal group)
Kaiila Wakan (roughly holy horse the name of our encampment and like a last name)
Sunka Wakan (Holy Dog the original name for the horse)
EACH AND EVERY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CHECKING THE HERD!
THE HERD IS LIVE (s live as can be in SL)
They are our livelihood
They are trade value
the represent a monetary exchange
Friend or Kola to the people
War mounts to the Akicitas
After the care of CHILDREN!
There is no greater care then that of the KAIILA
if you see one of them going hungry
or unhappy report
when they get to about the 60 percent mark
they have the chance to become sick
BEING SICK COSTS MUCH
in two days unattended
they die.
This fall I will set out the whole of the herd in inventory
(those that have petted out not breedable)
And ask you too we will have a horse show
and talk about the needs for warriors
and children, (KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR PONIES)
Riding lessons are started at age 2.
BREEDS THAT WE LOOK FOR
The War Paints or any painted
Mustangs
Palominos
Lipazaner while not traditional
normally breed good stock
and make for some nice
painted looks
Quarter horses have good markings
and speed
We love the spotted Kaiila like Periodot

OK BIG BIG WORD FOR OCTOBER!!
Wakanjeja!
this is the name for our children
the full meaning of this can be taken into the two parts of
this word.
Wakan (Holy or sacred) Jeja (Gift)
Our children are sacred, they are our
most precious gifts.
So now when you man the ridges
you know what it is we fight for
and what we aim to protect.
Our philosophy
"It takes a village to raise a child"
Children are never ignored
we spend time with them
we teach them
we listen to them
and we are lenient when the make a mistake
Spankings are not part
of traditional punishment
Stories to redirect
or chores,
or a little quest to teach.

The goal of the sim for me is Realism
Real culture
Real learning
Real relationships
Real Tribe
*******************
So then what is yours?
A note on the vote that was made on the webpage
I got 10 responses out of a tribe of now 62 at the time the tribe
was at about 50 something
So we will support more
I got many different responses
But how much more?
I will need to have a pledge from each of you
if it cannot be towards sim costs, then
what will it be?
Time, editing, recruiting, building,
RP? time spent in the museum?
Research
teaching?
Voting showed that all of you would go
for a full sim
for side sims
(nature sims)
and in comments I got things like
I cannot contribute at this time in
funds and that is ok
also saving until Christmas
and in talking with others
Stephen (who plays manitu)
suggested saving
there should be no pressure
if we grow we can build more
more things to sell also to preserve the sim
our catalogs go directly to sim care.
Ok so enough on that...lol
We currently are prepared for Novembers Rent.
Potential for growth
the sim next to us us now half vacant
would you support doing the Trade post there
Kaiiluak? it fits
may models
one, there were many unknown assaliants in the area
believed black caste next door
two it would be a good pass into the
area
three provides for group rps between the builders, the black caste
us and the monastary
Could be neutral ground
Could open up some great things for dances, trading days, and kaiila
sales
and more prims...we have been good and found a 1 prim turtle
that was acting badly
when rezzed he had a land impact of 137!!
took that out and cleaned up the sim
when the garden comes out for winter that will open up more space
what are your dreams for sim?
***************************
Special thank you to all the great rps and editors in sim
